Living With a Trained Service Dog: Meet Archie and Lily

One of our greatest joys here at Aly’s Puppy Bootcamp, is connecting the perfect dog with the perfect owner. Here is one of our favorite stories, meet Lily and Archie.

Archie Service Dog

We love Archie!

We learned about Aly from a friend who had purchased a dog from Aly’s Puppy Bootcamp.

Lily, Archie’s owner has a history of epilepsy. She was first diagnosed at 8 years old and has been undergoing treatment ever since. We always thought she would outgrow it since we were told 80 % of children do. But unfortunately, that wasn’t her destiny.

While away at college Lily developed severe mental health challenges which  are very common with epilepsy.

In September of 2021 she had a seizure while out for a run, luckily her dad found her. Coincidentally he was on his way home from work and saw her lying on the side of the road. She had only been running for 15 minutes. It was horrifying to say the least. It was after this seizure that we decided to look into a “service dog” for Lily.

We wanted to get a dog that was already trained as we didn’t want to go through the puppy potty training phase. We wanted to find a dog that would be quickly able to help Lily.

I contacted Aly on October 3rd and by November 10th Archie was in our home. The process was so easy!

Aly was very responsive and answered all my questions. We first met Archie on a facetime call with Luke. They thought he would be a good fit.

One of the biggest differentiators, is Aly’s Perfect Match Program.  Aly and Luke match the personality of the dog to the needs of the potential owner. He told us why he thought Archie would be a good fit. He explained midsize dogs are better than small dogs to help with anxiety as they can apply pressure which helps relieve anxiety.  Also, he told us that Archie was very friendly and not shy. He explained a shy dog probably wouldn’t be a good fit.  We took their advice. It was more important to us that the dog’s personality and temperament would be a good fit rather than how the dog looked.

Aly’s team made all of the arrangements and Luke flew Archie from California to our home in Florida. Luke spent a couple of days here working with us and Archie. That was so helpful. Archie was amazing from day 1.  Soon there after we began working with a local trainer for service dog certification. We are so proud that Archie just passed the AKC ‘s canine good citizen test so he’s well on his way to being the best service dog for our daughter Lily.

Archie has been an invaluable addition to our family.

He has provided comfort and security to Lily. Even our Shipoo Ozzy has grown to like him! We are forever grateful to Aly and Luke for bringing Archie to Lily!
